Professor of Philosophy John Searle discusses human consciousness and artificial intelligence versus people in this consciousness speech. Searle believes that consciousness is a biological phenomenon, which implies that artificial intelligence will never be conscious.
Searle explains that if one believes that they are conscious then they must be conscious. He says that from the time someone wakes up to the time that they go to sleep they are conscious. He says that man has yet to create a robot that has consciousness and predicts that this is a limitation in terms of artificial intelligence that scientists won't solve.
Searle believes that studying human consciousness is extremely important and worth while, despite the fact that not many people take the time to really examine it.
