Ellen Galinsky discusses seven skills that are key to achieving success in this life skills speech. Galinsky, co-founder of Families and Work Institute, takes viewers through these seven skills one by one, explaining why each one is so important to success.
Galinsky begins with focus and control. She claims that losing interest in one's work is the killer of productivity, which is why focus is so key. She says perspective taking is also essential, meaning that it's important to be able to understand how other people are thinking, feeling and seeing the world. Communicating, unsurprisingly, is listed among Galinsky's seven essential skills. Her fourth key life skill is making connections and in order to do that, one needs to be able to understand and communicate with others.
One of the most important skills that Galinsky lists is critical thinking, because the world is full of information and it's up to the individual to sort the reliable information from the rest of it. Taking on new challenges is also listed among these essential skills, without being afraid of failure. Lastly, she explains that it's important to learn from our failures and experiences in order to succeed.
