Jeremy Howard's programming keynote explores how computers have evolved rapidly over the last decades. From Arthur Samuel's checkers playing computer to IBM's Watson, computers have become so intelligent that they soon might not need to be programmed at all.
Howard begins his keynote by drawing the audience's attention to how today computers can learn and discover info based on embedded algorithm. One example of this is the search engine Google that can look for information based off of what Howard refers to as "machine learning" or "deep learning" -- ie. a computer's ability to learn through data. This is how companies like Amazon can target consumers with recommended products or LinkedIn can recommend friends. As computers learn and grow off of inputted data, they will soon no longer require any human programming to evolve. While this is extremely remarkable, Howard suggest that "...now's the time to start thinking about how we're going to adjust our social structures and economic structures to be aware of this new reality."
