Zahra’ Langhi’s misguided revolution speech details her victory in having women represented equally in the country’s elections, yet quickly swivels to explaining why that alone wasn’t enough.
Langhi begins her keynote by explaining how she lobbied along with many other women to have an election rule adopted that ensured women had as many places on election ballots as men. While the proposed measure was adopted and 17% of the elected officials were women, Langhi quickly points out her speech is not meant to inspire.
On the contrary, Langhi admits this alone was not enough and calls for more widespread feminine values to be instilled in the consciousness of Libya. Values like mercy, collaboration and inclusion are a few of the values Langhi mentions are still missing in Libya.
