Vishaan Chakrabarti, an architect and professor who is the founder of New York-based firm Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, recently took part in a remote discussion for TED to highlight three strategies that can be used to promote equity and inclusion in cities.
Throughout the discussion, Chakrabarti speaks to the importance of creating equitable housing, while also ensuring that healthcare and affordable transportation is accessible to all. While speaking to these topics, he considers the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had so far, and how we can expect climate change to continue to impact them in the future. One example Chakrabarti speaks to is the conversion of office buildings, which he expects will be in lower demand as remote working remains prevalent after the pandemic.
As he explains, in order to make these changes, policies need to be readdressed and cities must make the decision to invest in their people.
