From Employing Justice Equally to Drug Cartels as Business Organizations

— December 5, 2014 — Keynote Trends
These talks on crime look at the justice system from a number of angles. Some look to the system to enforce laws and address particular problems like violence, where as others examine corruption. Discussing everything from the police to peace, these talks on crime are varied.

In his injustice keynote, human rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson critically looks at American incarceration rates, race and wealth. The speaker comes to the conclusion the justice system is broken and encourages people not to accept the status quo. Professor Ardath Whynacht discusses Canadian prisons and states if there were social justice, there would be no need for criminal justice. She advocates for mental health and addiction services that are community-based. General Peter van Uhm of the Netherlands takes a different approach in his talk dispelling gun biases.
