Dr. Steven Masley seeks to transform America's relationship with food, starting with his healthy eating talk. Masley's advice is simple and to the point: all you need to do to encourage healthier eating habits is to prepare food that tastes good. It may seem like stating the obvious, but Masley's approach is actually quite genius. People have a wide-held belief that eating healthy has to be bland, boring and, in some cases, even gross. Masley aims to do away with this widely-perpetuated misinformation in five easy steps.
In order to get the biggest bang for your buck, Masley advises us to up our fiber intake to 30 grams a day. Fiber (specifically in the form of vegetables, fruits, beans and nuts) is key to improving brain function, the immune system and overall health. Secondly, Masley recommends we eat what he refers to as "lean and clean" protein. This means free-range and organic products and wild seafood. Thirdly, instead of trying to reduce fat, Masley suggests we introduce more healthy fat into our diets. Healthy fat can come in the form of seafood, avocados and nuts. Coming in at fourth place is Masley's suggestion that we replace sugary drinks with more beneficial beverages like water, green tea and protein shakes.
Masley's final point reiterates his overall thesis that food needs more flavor! In fact, our brains are bio-chemically attracted to it. Food with more flavor is, in Masley's mind, the only way to revolutionize America's eating habits.
