This Joshua Walters Keynote Reframes Notions of Crazyness
Andrew Robertson — May 10, 2012 — Keynote Trends
In this Joshua Walters keynote the comedian and educator discusses the positive connotations of mental illnesses. Diagnosed as being bipolar, Joshua Walters spent the first half of his High School years managing his extreme manic episodes and the second half stuck in a prescription drug-induced daze.
After graduating Walters decided that he had a decision to make, either deny his mental illness or embrace his mental skillness. By reframing his mental illness into something positive, Walters has been able to direct his hypermanic episodes in creative and beneficial ways.
Describing many famous artists and entrepreneurs who have also been somewhere on the bipolar scale, the comedian illustrates how perhaps being labeled as crazy really means that one is "more sensitive to what most people can't see or feel, no one's crazy but everyone's just a little bit mad."
