Our cognitive biases make us this way and prevent us from reaching our full potential. The speaker outlines three biases that are particularly destructive: self-delusion, resistance to change and creatures of habit.
The marketing talk also discusses the hurdles marketing and technology have to overcome -- how to change the behavior in someone who will not admit they have a problem, how to overcome resistance to change and how to make a positive change a habit. He shares how each of these obstacles can addressed as well. Stokes says "psychology (marketing) tells us what we need to say on an individual basis -- but technology helps us deliver that to the masses in a truly personalized way."
