Ardath Whynacht

The Ardath Whynacht talks discuss the shortcomings of youth programs. The speaker has personal experience in the matter as she works in a prison and sees the effect a lack of mental health services and addictions counselling had on the inmates she teaches.

Based out of Halifax, the youth advocate and professor leads community-centric art programs and has done so for over a decade. The programming focuses on poetry and performance classes in a Federal jail. The speaker is an award-winning poet and community-based artist herself.

As a professor, she teaches sociology, criminology and gender studies. The also writes about and researches the relationship between culture, mental health and the penal system.
