From Misogynist Internet Conventions to Revamping Urban Politics

— December 9, 2014 — Keynote Trends
These presentations on community show where people gather there is power. Whether that community exists in cyber space or in a hyper-local setting, communities can cover entire nations or a small portion of the population.

Former President of the United States George W. Bush explains in his talk on The Volunteer Spirit of America how the rewards of volunteering and giving back to the community result in riches much greater than gold or material wealth. The number of presentations on community that represent specific groups of people, like the LGBT-supporting speech Anne Hathaway gave, shows communities can exist in large numbers in different places. In a similar vein, Natalie Warne discusses how stories do not stand alone and social media can be used to activate a community.
